Life is a Process

Life needs constant adaptation

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek” — Barrack Obama

You can make plans
You can make goals
You can have some idea of what you think you should do
What sort of life you should have
What the next checkpoint should look like
But just as no plan survives contact with the enemy
So too is the dream transformed and remoulded by the elements of life
Just as you think you’ve got it
Just as you are the oldest and biggest in the school
You are pushed to move on
Something derails the plan

What becomes painfully apparent is that the sense of control you desire
Is unattainable
Unattainable in a world where
Second by second,
Year by year
Your identity and ideas about the world not only adapt
But transform

What becomes painfully apparent is that there never will be
A final destination
Where everything is in its special place
Where no further work or planning is needed
Rather
Life is about constant adaptation to new ideas, new relationships, new ways of being

What becomes painfully apparent then
Is that life is a process
A series of births and deaths, resurrection and fall
There are ups and downs
Good and bad
Glory and failure
And as time passes
We move through these phases
It is inevitable

Old ideas about who we are, old relationships, old things
These make way for new people, dreams, goals
Our thoughts will fade
Our feelings will dissolve

What was is no more
Who we were is not who we are
All we have is right now
All we have is this present moment

We must accept the phase we are in
We must accept the present for what it is
We must live in the now.
